Sanitation workers of the Tiruchi Corporation retrieved five sovereigns of gold jewellery that had been accidentally discarded along with household waste in Srirangam and returned it to its owner, earning praise from local residents for their honesty and compassion.
Parameswari, a sanitation worker, and Selvendran, a vehicle driver, were collecting household waste in North Chithirai Street, in Ward 2 of Srirangam, on Wednesday morning.
During the collection, Susheela, wife of Varadarajan and a resident of the locality, handed over household waste to the workers. Unbeknownst to her, five sovereigns of gold jewellery had been accidentally mixed with the waste.
While collecting the waste, the workers noticed the jewellery and immediately returned it to Susheela.
She was relieved to recover the valuable jewellery, which she had inadvertently discarded.
