Tiruchi Mayor K.Anbazhagan inspected a storm water pumping station facility in the city, which was constructed to pump out storm water surges from a nearby canal to low lying areas and neighborhoods in the city.
The Corporation has created a storm water pumping station facility to pump out rain runoff and flood waters from Peria Vaikal canal into low lying neighbor hoods including Aadhi Nagar, Fatima Nagar, Dhobi colony, Krishnapuram, Koraiyaru society colony and Thulsinga Nagar.
The corporation has also constructed a retaining wall near the canal to prevent flood waters entering neighborhoods during heavy rains in the North East monsoon seson. In the past years, these areas had experienced high inundation and water logging during the North-East Monsoon, due to which the facility was created.
The storm water pumping station with 20 HP electric and diesel motors were created to prevent water logging in these low lying neighbourhoods. The Mayor instructed the officials to keep the facility in readiness even as heavy rains are indicated in this week and during rest of the North East monsoon season.
Later the Mayor said that “ electric and diesel motors, tree cutting machines and fogging facilities are kept in state of readiness across the five zones to meet any rain related emergencies and disruption to day to day life”
