The police are collecting details of senior citizens in Karur district and monitoring their safety as part of preventive measures, Superintendent of Police Harikiran Prasad has said.
He said registers containing basic details, including the names and addresses of senior citizens, were being maintained at all police stations in the district to ensure the safety of elderly people.
Special attention is being given to senior citizens living alone and elderly couples within the jurisdiction of each police station. Police personnel visit their homes periodically to enquire about their well-being and assess their current security situation.
The police also enquire whether they face any security threats, suspicious movements of individuals in their neighbourhoods or other difficulties. Based on these visits, necessary advice and security measures are being provided, the SP said.
He added that the police were paying due attention to the grievances and needs of senior citizens to ensure that they could live safely without fear. They were also being sensitised on how to seek police assistance in emergencies, he said.
