Officials have been instructed to expedite the process of distributing 20 lakh pattas (land ownership documents) in Tiruchi district, said Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan.
A review meeting on the functioning of the Revenue Department and the Disaster Management Department was held at the Tiruchi Collectorate. Deputy Speaker Ravishankar, Collector Pratik Tayal, legislators and officials from various government departments participated in the meeting.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sengottaiyan said officials had been directed to speed up the work related to the distribution of 20 lakh pattas in the district. Instructions had also been issued to expedite the pending work of the Revenue and Disaster Management departments, he said.
The Chief Minister had been reviewing the functioning of all government departments over the past three months. In Chennai, teams comprising officials and Ministers had been formed to identify rain-related problems and take immediate remedial measures. The Chief Minister was also personally inspecting the affected areas, he said.
“No one can conquer nature. However, the government must always be prepared to protect people from the impact of natural disasters,” he said, adding that precautionary measures were being taken to tackle rain, floods and other disasters.
Responding to claims by DMK members that waterlogging had been prevented in Chennai after the completion of stormwater drain works worth ₹4,000 crore, Sengottaiyan said 40% of the work had remained incomplete during the previous government’s tenure. After the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) assumed office, the pending works had been completed within four months, he claimed.
