The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has clarified that it has not granted any planning permission for the property owned by the Bashyam Group in Nungambakkam, Chennai.

Bashyam Group, a prominent real estate developer, has constructed and continues to develop multi-storey buildings and residential complexes in major cities. The company is reportedly said to have purchased 5.8 acres on Haddows Road in Nungambakkam for about ₹1,212 crore. It is reportedly planning to develop luxury apartments, international-standard commercial complexes and office spaces on the site.

Recently, reports that the CMDA had granted permission for a 27-storey building on the property in violation of regulations triggered a controversy. Energy Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar had also issued a clarification on the issue.

The Minister said applications seeking planning permission had been received from the Bashyam Group, but no permission had been granted in violation of the rules. He described the reports circulating on the issue as entirely false.

Against this backdrop, the CMDA has issued an official clarification on whether permission had been granted to the company.

The authority stated: “The reports claiming that permission was granted to the Bashyam Group for its Nungambakkam property in violation of the rules are entirely false. We also wish to clarify that the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has not granted any permission so far in respect of the company’s property in Nungambakkam.”
