Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited commercial establishments to obtain licences to advertise on metro trains and at metro stations.

Metro rail has become an integral part of Chennai’s public transport network. Under Phase I, services operate along a total stretch of 54.61 km, covering 21.96 km between Chennai Central and St. Thomas Mount and 32.65 km between Wimco Nagar and the airport.

Under Phase II, metro services were introduced on the 14.64-km Vadapalani–Poonamallee Bypass corridor on October 11.

A total of 52 four-coach trains operate on the Phase I corridors, while 15 four-coach trains serve the newly opened Phase II corridor. This takes the total number of metro trains in operation to 67.

CMRL has invited bids from commercial establishments seeking licences to display advertisements inside and outside trains operating on the Phase I corridors. Companies can participate in the tender either directly or through advertising agencies. Existing advertisers on Phase I trains can also participate in the bidding process to extend their licences.

In addition, CMRL has invited bids for advertising at seven stations on the Phase II corridor. The opportunity also includes semi-naming rights, allowing advertisers to associate their brands with the names displayed at station entrances.

Each advertising licence will be valid for a period of three years.
