The Tiruchi City Municipal Corporation has intensified mosquito control measures across all 65 wards following the onset of the northeast monsoon. Corporation Commissioner N. Ponmani has warned that fines will be imposed on those who dump garbage on roads and in public places.
Ponmani inspected mosquito control operations in the Sangiliyandapuram area on Monday.
With rainwater stagnation creating favourable conditions for mosquito breeding, surveillance and mosquito control activities have been stepped up across all corporation zones, she said.
Sixty domestic mosquito control supervisors have already been deployed in each zone. Following the onset of the monsoon, an additional 20 dengue prevention workers have been deployed in every zone to strengthen preventive measures.
A total of 350 workers are going door to door to identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites and conduct fever surveys among residents to help prevent dengue, she said.
The Commissioner also urged households and commercial establishments to segregate their waste into four categories and hand it over properly to sanitation workers during collection.
Residents and business establishments must not dump garbage on roads or in public places. Violators will be fined, she warned.
Ponmani appealed to the public to cooperate with the corporation in keeping Tiruchi clean.
