Authorities have prohibited tourists from visiting the Thalaiyanai eco-tourism site in Kalakkad and bathing in its waters following a rise in inflow caused by continuous rain in the hill areas.

The restriction came into effect on Tuesday at Thalaiyanai, which falls under the Kalakkad–Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve.

Continuous rainfall in the hills could cause a sudden increase in water inflow and changes in the speed of the current, posing a risk to visitors. The department has imposed the ban as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.

The restriction will remain in force until further orders, the Forest Department said. The public and tourists have been urged to follow the department’s instructions and avoid visiting the area until the ban is lifted.
