The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation intensified rain relief operations on Wednesday to remove stagnant rainwater from low-lying areas and ensure the normal functioning of daily life amid heavy rainfall in the city.
Following instructions from Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, relief operations are being carried out across all five zones. Heavy machines, sludge-removal vehicles and motor pumps are being deployed to remove stagnant water and clear blockages in stormwater drains.
Rain-related problems are being monitored through the Corporation’s Integrated Command and Control Centre and CCTV cameras installed in underpasses and ward areas. Officials are being alerted to waterlogging and traffic disruptions so that necessary action can be taken promptly.
Meanwhile, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Sampath Kumar, Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja and other officials inspected rain-affected areas, including MGR Market. They instructed officials to expedite water removal and intensify sanitation work.
The Corporation said that all 60 complaints received through its helpline and social media regarding waterlogging and other rain-related problems had been addressed.
Sanitation measures are also being carried out to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue and malaria, as well as waterborne infections.
The measures include removing stagnant water and eliminating mosquito-breeding sites.
