Trichy:
A 28-year-old man was arrested by the police on Thursday for allegedly cheating 10 people of ₹5.32 lakh by promising to secure jobs for them at the Trichy District Collectorate.
The accused, J. Surya (28), a native of Musiri, had approached T. Sathishkumar (52) of Kallankadu Melaveethi in Uyyakondan Thirumalai, Tiruchi district, in May, promising to secure an assistant's post for his daughter at the District Collectorate.
Believing him, Sathishkumar paid ₹50,000 for the job. Similarly, Surya allegedly collected ₹50,000 each from nine other persons on the promise of securing jobs for them at the Collectorate. He also collected ₹32,000 towards medical examinations. In total, he allegedly received ₹5.32 lakh from 10 persons.
However, Surya failed to arrange the promised jobs. Based on a complaint lodged recently by Sathishkumar at the Trichy Sessions Court police station, the police registered a case and conducted an investigation. Surya was arrested on Thursday.
